Chainring which way

I don't know the purpose of these, so would be interesting to know. I'm wondering though, with these being on the this side of the chain wheel, does this indicate that this central chain wheel is on correctly or incorrectly i.

The pins should be on the frame side, helping the chain to transition from the smallest chainring to the middle one. How did it get the wrong way round? Thanks again. Post by Brucey » 21 Oct , pm also the chainrings are meant to be 'timed' and ought to go on one or two of four different ways. I think that orientation may be wrong too! There is a tab or peg that lines up with the crank. In addition I'm not sure which exact model of crankset you have, but I suspect that the big ring is meant to be bolted to the outside of the spider, not the inside of the spider.
