Why interested in working for our company

Are you enthusiastic about the position? Do your goals and experience align with the role? Will you positively contribute to the company? Research the position. Outside media coverage: Find recent news stories or press releases related to the organization.

Personal networks: Consider reaching out to your own connections to learn about the company culture and inner workings. Structure your answer. How is this position going to help you advance in your career? How does the position align with your future goals? What is unique about this job? What makes you an especially good fit for this company or role? End your answer with a question. Are you serious!?! Are you confused? Of course! Who knew such a simple question could actually be something so layered?

Are you ready? Why do you want to work for this company? Why do you want this job? Now rather than deciphering the more complex layers, most job seekers will simply answer the question in a straight forward manner:.

Again, your number one goal is to always be the perfect candidate and that includes making sure you align your skills and qualities with the values and needs of the company. Again, bonus points for being honest…but although we always encourage you to tell the truth, there is a fine line between being upfront and being escorted out the door. Shockingly, out of the five example bad answers, this one is actually closest to what you do want to say…just maybe not in quite such a cocky way. It seems like [Company Name] offers a unique environment for me to expand my professional skills, and I love taking on a new challenge to make something great even better. Hiring managers like to see that a candidate has spent time researching the company and preparing for an interview.

You want your answers to be organized and intentional but unscripted. Spend an equal amount of time talking and listening for the duration of the interview, and incorporate the information you learn into your responses.

If an employer asks a follow-up question about what prompted you to look for another job, try to frame your answer so that it reinforces what you like about the interviewer and their company.

In a similar vein, you also want to avoid making your response too personal. There might be circumstances in your personal life that make it imperative for you to find a new job—for example, an expected layoff or income gap. If you respect the professional boundaries of a job interview, employers will be more interested in working with you. What goes unsaid is just as important as the information you relay to a potential employer.

Every interaction with a potential employer should set the stage for an offer. Choose one of these approaches that truly reflects how you feel about an opportunity.
