Us and them what is it about

Some of the stuff i have said may be a tad innaccurate, but I'm only human. This is the general concept of the song, though. No Replies Log in to reply. There was an error. General Comment Timeless poetry such as this has many levels of meaning.

Laid out before us by the artist so succinctly, yet so sublime. All of us can see the reference to the nature of war, its cruelty, and futility. However, I believe there is a more primal meaning to these words. It's more about human nature, rather than the nature of war. We like to think that as individuals we are called to war by our dehumanized leaders with their wicked words. The greed of nations cause war and we can't deny that is what the fighting is all about.

Yet, in our personal lives, our greed can blind us to the suffering of the needy within our own society with people dying for the price of tea and a slice. I believe the lyrics examines how we like to think of ourselves as individuals and how we truly act on a personal level. SkinnyD on March 31, Link. I interpreted "Black and blue" as a subtle reference to racism.

Also, I interpreted "Down and out" as a reference to death, an inevitable consequence of war. General Comment I love this song, and while it's about war, on a larger scale, it's about human nature in general. The four lines at the end " I've always interpreted the old man as a beggar, and the four lines a somber commentarty on how we treat our own people.

The " With, Without The man saying " The old man is without, a beggar who doesn't even have the money to buy lunch. We're all human beings, and we're all we have on this Earth, so what's being said is that we should be kinder to one another.

We had a big meeting where I came up with a big peace plan that has come to nothing, sadly. I know you are. I bet all Pink Floyd fans are sorry to hear that. They all hoped that we could kiss and make up and everything would be wonderful in a cozy, wonderful world. The reason being that I wanted to get on with my work. Work is its own reward.

That was gratifying. What did you think of his show? I was really pleasantly surprised by Saucerful of Secrets. I really enjoyed it, and obviously I love Nick. We see each other often, and I adore him. Guy Pratt was great singing and playing the guitar. He knows a lot about it all having worked for Gilmour for all those years. And I thought Nick sounded great. And the other guys were really splendid. Fuck no. Why would I want to do that? And I shall continue to do that.

And he sort of invented the circular screen we used. I remember when we did The Wall [in ] being criticized by Bono. We just play our music and the songs unto themselves and blah, blah, blah. So good luck to them, but what a load of bullshit. If you lead them, people will follow.

Did people say things like that a lot? Dig it? I mean he got off light, 'cause I coulda given 'im a thrashin', I only hit him once. It's only the difference between right and wrong innit? I mean good manners don't cost nothing do they, eh? Pink Floyd - "Us And Them" This describes society's tendency of ethnocentrism and isolation in cases of war, politics, and class.

It's a description of the battle of the citizens' desires and the government. While Heller uses these techniques to demonstrate the harmfulness of bureaucracy having absolute power, Kubrick uses them to satirise the fears of Americans during the Cold War and illustrate the futility and destructiveness of war.

Both authors use irony and black humour…. War is hell. Economically, socially, and politically are some of the cost of a war. Some people think that the next war will be fought…. The conflict described in this anti-war song deals with the influence of governments, media, and religion on modern society. The song suggests all of these sources of information are biased and self-concerned, thus deceiving the individuals to blindly believe only one point of view. I chose this song because it can relate to the issues faced in the modern society.

The main message of the song is that a big part of today's world is moving in the wrong direction, but that is justified by religion, media, greed and governments. They have managed to be so influential that people go to war and die for unjust causes.

The older generations describe the war as a way to show patriotism but fail to understand and explain the horrors and emotional effects of war.
